Simon graduated in Medicine from the University of Adelaide in 1992. After 2 years working as a junior doctor in Sydney, he commenced Anaesthetic Specialty training in 1995 in Adelaide, before moving to Tasmania in 1996. He completed his Anaesthetic training in the UK and after moving back to Tasmania in 2000, pursued training in Intensive Care Medicine as well. He passed the Intensive Care Fellowship examination in 2003, becoming the first person to do this while working from Hobart.

More recently, in 2006 Simon had the opportunity to work for a year at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide both as a Paediatric Anaesthetist and as a Fellow in Paediatric Intensive Care.

In 2008 he was Acting Director of the Department of Anaesthesia at the Royal Hobart Hospital for 12 months.

Simon currently works half his time with the Hobart Anaesthetic Group, the other half being at the Royal Hobart Hospital. His interests outside work include bushwalking and skiing.
