Dr. van der Griend has worked with The Hobart Anaesthetic Group since 2008.

Ben is originally from Brisbane where he went to medical school at the University of Queensland. After working in North Queensland for 2 years, he went to work in the United Kingdom where he started his anaesthetics training. He completed his training back in Australia working in Brisbane and Hobart. Ben was admitted to fellowship with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2007.

Ben has developed a keen interest in Paediatric Anaesthesia. As well as his training at the Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Mater Children's Hospital (Brisbane), in 2008 Ben spent a year as a Fellow at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne working in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the operating theatres.

As well as his work with the Hobart Anaesthetic Group, Ben is a Staff Specialist at the Royal Hobart Hospital. Ben also volunteers as an instructor for the Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) programme where he is involved with teaching junior medical staff and nurses about emergency life support for children. These courses are run both in Tasmania and mainland Australia.
