Regular Sessions

The Group maintains a register of regular elective ongoing operating sessions that it services. These lists are negotiated and require a written request and approval at Group management meeting.

Session Cancellations

It is important that The Group secretarial staff be notified if a regular session is planned not to be used or only partially booked. This improves our ability to cover extra sessions and emergencies.

Extra Sessions

Extra operating sessions can be covered depending on the availability of an anaesthetist. Direct phone contact with the secretarial staff at 303 Macquarie Street (03 62231610) expedites such a booking..

Elective Patients

Details of patients booked onto the elective lists should be forwarded by fax (03 62240034), email (bookings@thegroup.com.au) or phone (03-62231610) as soon as possible.

Pre-Anaesthetic Assessments

Patients with significant medical problems and/or undergoing major procedures and/or who have specific concerns regarding anaesthesia can be pre-assessed by their anaesthetist at our rooms at 303 Macquarie Street. Bookings for such a consultation need to made with the secretarial staff. Patients need to bring a referral letter and the results of any relevant investigations.

Emergency Patients

True emergencies require early notification and may occasionally even lead to appropriate negotiation and interruption of a regular session in order to free up an anaesthetist, operating theatre and/or theatre staff. During hours please contact the secretarial staff (03 62231610) and the relevant operating theatre manager.

After Hours Contact

The Group rosters one anaesthetist to be on-call after hours. Ringing the rooms (03 62231610) will provide the name and contact number of the anaesthetist on-call who will handle any emergency patient bookings. Should the on-call anaesthetist not be able to provide the anaesthesia service then other available options can be negotiated. It is preferable for after hours bookings to be based on specialist to specialist contact in order to expedite arrangements, avoid unnecessary complications and provide the flexibility that may be required when dealing with emergency situations.
